500 S. Langlade Crt.

Rose Marie and Gary Pollatz

Our Gardens of the Month are officially off and running for the 2023 season. First up for June is the residence of Rose Marie and Gary Pollatz.

They live on Langlade Court, but your best view of their yard is from the intersection of Broadview and Libal streets, where those variegated purple irises are sure to catch your eye. It’s a landscape that mixes perennials like the lavender blooms of catmint and the gorgeous yellow flowers of a “Bartzella” peony with ornamental shrubs and dwarf conifers in an array of lush greens, blue greens and yellow geeens.

Rose Marie enjoys showing the gardens to people walking by, and she’ll also tell you their daughter, Caryn, gets the credit for doing the planting. (She laid the brick pathway, too.)

Please join us in congratulating both generations of gardeners for making the Village of Allouez a beautiful place to call home.

David VanLannen

Every garden tells a story, and we’re pleased to share David VanLannen’s as our second Garden of the Month honoree for June.

His corner lot at Baird and Garland streets is a welcoming and peaceful space filled with family treasures, including his mother’s birdbath and a cross to commemorate his sister. Wrought iron fencing frames a picture-perfect garden, and an arbor covered in grapevine makes for quite an entrance. His many clematis vines are showing off with their annual June display. Pots of annuals, including petunias and SunPatiens, add to all the color, along with that pop of peony pink. The flagstone leading visitors to the front door is his work as well.

Congratulations, David. Thanks for making Allouez a beautiful place to live!
