2427 Webster Avenue

Mary Jo and John Moore

Congratulations to our August Garden of the Month winners, Mary Jo and John Moore. They’ve been upping the curb appeal at their home at 2427 Webster Ave. for 27 years and counting.

They’ve enhanced previous landscape work by adding pretty perennial beds that keep the show going late into the season with phlox, coneflowers, black-eyed Susans and sedums. You’ll spot Mary Jo’s favorite, pink phlox, fun garden art and window boxes brimming with annuals on their corner lot.

They worked with their neighbors to plant a border of hydrangeas and hostas rather than a fence.

Mary Jo is the gardener, and John lends a hand by digging the holes. Thanks to them both for always making us look in their direction and admiring their work when we’re traveling down Webster!

627 Heyden Lane

Christine Kelley and Paul Gagan

Christine Kelley and Paul Gagan’s favorite getaway isn’t a cottage up north by the lake, it’s their own beautiful yard. Their version of a retreat is as close as the gardens at their home at 627 Heyden Lane — the tranquil sounds of water included. We’re pleased to name them as our second Garden of the Month winners for August.

Theirs is a corner lot, which means they have a lot of space to work their magic and a lot for passersby to see in the front, side and back yards. There are perennials and annuals aplenty, including some show-stopping climbing mandevillas and whopper hardy hibiscus blooms. Many of their plants are from family, including peonies from Christine’s mom and grandma.

They work together, with Christine as the chief weeder and Paul in charge of the many fountains and the mulching. As a former nursery employee, Paul used to bring plants and shrubs home that looked like they were goners and nurse them back to health. It’s a gift that sure comes in handy.

Congratulations, Paul Gagan and Christine Kelley! Thanks for sharing your labor of love with Allouez.
