If September is that month when we both can’t wait for fall but don’t want to say so long to summer, we think we’ve found the perfect Garden of the Month.
Lynn and Nick Hetcher’s yard at 360 St. Mary’s Boulevard is all cozy fall vibes with the colors of the season, the muted hues of maturing hydrangeas and an early sprinkling of fallen leaves, while geraniums, marigolds and other annuals keep the summer bolds and brights coming.
Nick gives Lynn, a former interior designer and painter, credit for transforming the yard with her creativity during their five years at the home, but don’t discount his contribution. He’s the lawn mower. A true family affair, even some of their 10 grandchildren have helped out.
Garden art tucked in here and there includes a life-sized egret and whimsical ceramic mushrooms purchased from a Door County artist each year to commemorate their anniversary.
Perhaps the most beautiful work of art is the grand structure of the flowering crab out their front windows. Like something from a storybook, its branches are a haven for wildlife with bird feeders and birdhouses.
Congratulations to Lynn and Nick for giving us another reason to love September in Allouez!

It’s hard to believe it’s already time for our final Garden of the Month winner for 2025. We couldn’t be more pleased to introduce you to Kyle and Cori Nyman to help us wrap up a great season.
In the three years they’ve lived at 403 Kalb St., they have turned up the curb appeal with oodles of happy, thriving annuals, including zinnias, cannas, begonias, impatiens and nasturtiums. All that fabulous color gets an added tropical punch from some of their indoor plants that get to come outside and soak up all summer has to offer on the front porch.
For all the blooms they share out in their front yard, their backyard is home to a large vegetable garden tended by the whole family, from the plants started from seed in the basement by Cori in February to all the outdoor planting, watering and weeding by Kyle and the kids.
Congratulations, Team Nyman! Thanks for not just calling Allouez home but also making it a more colorful place to live.
