Every garden has a story, and our August Garden of the Month has an extraordinary one.
Tim and Cindy Lewis have created a sprawling bed filled with cheerful color at 451 Vande Hei Road, only to have a huge neighborhood tree fall across it two years ago and crush everything. They replanted and gave it new life.
Then, earlier this year, when their neighbors’ car was stolen, the person behind the wheel drove it through Tim and Cindy’s garden. Once again, they revived it.
As it blooms this August, a delightful mix of perennials, roses and annuals, it’s living proof that plants and the people who care for them are a resilient bunch.
Congratulations to Tim and Cindy. Thanks for never giving up and for sharing your blooms with Allouez!

Our second August Garden of the Month winners are Steve and Jessica Georgel, who have lived at 735 E. Allouez Ave. for 25 years.
Their gardening journey started with landscaping in the back after their kids moved out. More recently, they’ve redone the front yard of their corner lot. Plantings of hydrangeas, peonies, shrubs, ornamental grasses, coneflowers, yarrow and other perennials have added color and multi-season interest, along with the curb appeal of a new front walk. Jessica is the gardener, and Steve is the builder. The backyard “she shed,” arbors and covered patio are all his work.
Congratulations!
