Our September Garden of the Month winner is a talented gardener head to toe — just look at those cute shoes!
Over the last 11 years, Judi Thomson has taken 2692 Beaumont Street from not a lick of landscaping to an eye-catching oasis of flowers, front and back. It’s one of those gardens that immediately feels happy and welcoming, thanks to a colorful mix of so many different annuals and perennials and a charming collection of garden art. (Her favorite pieces, by the way, are the faces made of stone, metal and concrete that watch over the garden from along the fence.)
Judi’s interest in gardening started with her grandparents. Her eye for design and creating whimsical touches is all her own.
Congratulations, Judi, and thank you for making your little piece of Allouez such a day brightener.

Paul and Barbara Biebel are one of those amazing couples, and not just when it comes to gardening together at their home at 324 Warren Court.
They’re our second Garden of the Month winners for September, but they also happen to be celebrating another big moment this month: their 60th wedding anniversary!
They’ve lived at their home for 47 years and garden very much as a team. He is the dreamer, and she does much of the hands-on work. Yes indeed, you’ll find Barbara laying pavers around a small backyard greenhouse built from a kit they bought at Costco. The many pots of mums lining the driveway and soon to burst with fall color? All started by Paul from thumb-size plugs.
Their showstopper this summer is an arbor with red and white mandevillas and an American flag. The front yard is also home to a ginkgo tree and a redbud with dramatic horizontal branching, both inspired by Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. Begonias, cannas, love-lies-bleeding and big pillows of coleus add to the pretty displays.
If you think Paul and Barbara have been busy out front, their backyard, once home to an in-ground pool, is filled with patio pots, 5-foot cacti and vegetable gardens with tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, artichokes, eggplants, pumpkins, cantaloupes …
The Biebels love to share their plants and love their friendly Allouez neighborhood. Please join us in wishing these September sweethearts double the congratulations!
